I was featured in a special on 365 Days of untold success stories of strong women who don’t give up, who fall ordinarily but rise back extraordinarily. Marching up to inspire!
What a rush it was to tell my story my way!

Soumini menon, 34, Developmental Psychologist & Arts Based Therapist. Campaigner at IMAGINE @imaginewithcf @soumini.m.p @meanderingzoul Emotional. Girl. Spectacles. Child. Dark. Pimples. Buckteeth. Class Clown. My childhood was far from being perfect. It had its ups and downs. But I was too young to take things seriously. Pure innocence made everything seem fine. My love for dance and limelight helped me entertain others and myself. Despite coming from a simple family, money and status never mattered. Come adolescence & suddenly the tables turned. All things that use to define me were now denied. No one took me seriously anymore. The class clown suddenly became a misfit. Being a South Indian, it was expected I would be a topper and become a doctor or engineer. Nothing made sense, nothing seemed fun and I felt lost. It took me a long time to find my definition of me. That definition keeps evolving every few years. But my first realization came when I started college. Suddenly I found my subject. My intuitive knowledge. My people. My creative side. My organized and hard-working side. My empathetic and passionate side. My leadership qualities. But most importantly I found my voice. And I realized that I can be taken seriously despite all my goofiness. I realized that low self-esteem, trauma, fear, depression, and anxiety don't define me. These are just uninvited guests who choose to visit me. I am a child psychologist – kids enjoy my fun side and their families take my knowledge seriously. I might be the living cliché of a psychologist who struggles with herself, but that doesn’t limit me. I am a dancer, storyteller, writer, dog lover, romantic, leader, believer, mother, woman, and human. #wecandoanythingyoudo #bnw #portrait #feminism #rolemodel #femaleempowerment #womenempowerment #equality #guardian #beauty #strongwomen #womenportrait #internationalwomensday #portrait #bnw #portraitphotography #bnwphotography #portraits #bnw_captures #portrait_vision #bnwportrait #unwomen #womenempowerment #instagram
